The Plight of Abandoned Animals
There are many animals in this world who get abandoned by their owners. Such animals find solace in the streets and their lifestyle changes from good to bad in matter of days. This is very sad for the poor animals and most of these animals are cats and dogs. These domestic pets suffer a great deal when they lose their homes. The cause of such happenings vary a lot. Sometimes the owners are just outright bad. Sometimes they face circumstances where the pet is not needed anymore. But regardless of what happens, this thing causes a lot of issues for the pets. Abandoned on the streets with no knowledge of how to survive or get food and shelter—that is the worst thing one can do to an animal. One of such cases is of Santa the dog, who was abandoned in the streets and left to die.
Santa’s Heartbreaking Story
Santa was a 3-year-old hunting dog who was left behind by her owners in the streets. She didn’t do anything to deserve such treatment. She was found in the backyard of a lady laying on the corner with barely any life in her. The woman saw this scene of horror and decided to help it by providing a wooden shelter to the dog. That didn’t help it much, as the dog was pretty badly hurt and almost dead. If not taken to the vet quickly, this might just have been it’s last day alive. Thank heavens that the good lady arrived just in time to provide the needed help to this dog and take him to the vet. Once at the hospital, the vets discovered that this dog was in a condition worse than expected.
The Discovery and Rescue
The vets noticed that this poor animals whole body was cold to the bone. He was suffering from mild hypothermia because of this coldness in the body. That is a very dangerous thing to happen to an animal. Besides all the scars and wounds she had, her leg was completely rotten. It was halfway gone. There was no saving that leg now. It had to be cut off so the rotting does not spread upwards. By the looks of it, the poor hound was turned so skinny that he could not move at all! There was almost zero energy in the abandoned animal. These kinds of things are hard to look at, especially when you know how long that dear soul has been starving and suffering for. Not only that but the whole body of this poor dog was filled up with fleas all over it. She was restless and help less throughout her days of the outdoors.
Critical Medical Care
The woman who took her to the vet also took charge of this dog. She wanted to help it get better, as she was a dog owner previously and had an affectionate and soft side for the animals. Now that this little dog had found itself someone who could take care of her, she only needed strength and recovery to get back up on her feet. After a couple of blood tests through the weeks, it was established that this dog suffered from Hemoparasites. The parasites that lay deep into one’s blood vessels. This was threatening and alarming news, and the dog had to undergo surgery immediately. One other issue with this dog was that her leg was now completely eaten up by the worms and she was only left with three of them. This complicated things a lot, as the blood vessel surgery can be dangerous and life-threatening too at times.
Battling Illness and Injury
Once Santa was admitted to the hospital, she was greeted by some good and skilled vets. After taking some tests, it was revealed that she has to go through not one but two surgeries. This was even more alarming now, as two surgeries meant twice the danger and double the time of recovery! Thankfully, both of the surgeries went smoothly, and there were no red flags throughout the process. However, these surgeries left the hound in a state worse for wear. With every dark cloud there is a silver lining. Her pain was now over and all the parasites were extracted successfully. All she had to do now was eat well and recover fast. She was discharged from the hospital after 3 days and her long long road towards the healing process began here. It was a long journey and she was ready to take that head on! She had been through so much that now the good life was just a step away.
The Road to Recovery
The recovery phase of this dog was going smoothly. The pain was over; she had built up a great appetite for the food, and things were looking great! The only issue was that she was having trouble walking as she had just lost her leg. Good thing tho that dogs can survive with three legs and she was on her way to adapt to this change. A little while later, she had her stitches removed and was free from all the wounds! Life was getting a lot better; she was healing her physical scars and her mental scars from the past life too. With all these things falling into place, it was time for her to start her physical therapy for walking and so she did.
A New Lease on Life
Fast forward two months, and Santa is now completely a different dog. She has learned how to walk and even run on those three legs. She looks, walks and acts as if she is a new dog! Completely healed from her trauma and past scars, she lives a new, refreshing life with her new owner. Her new owner is none other than the lady who saved her. Santa lives with her and her other dogs and enjoys her days running around the backyard that she was found in. The new Santa has improved so much that she is nowhere near the poor, hurt, and traumatised animal she was back then. Thanks to the efforts of this lady, she is now able to live a great life. Things are looking bright for her and her current condition is like the tragedy never happened!
