A Life on the Streets: The Struggles of a Mother Dog

In the chaos of daily life, at the middle of a busy city, there was a stray dog, a creature of the streets, known to few and loved by few. Though her life had always been difficult, her spirit remained whole. She was a mother, and the small life she raised gave her strength in addition to inner one.

 

 

A Dark Turn: The Trap

Her trip turned darker one terrible day. The mother dog stumbled into a nasty trap while hunting food to feed her puppies. Little but vicious, a mouse trap wrapped firmly around her paw. Days became a vortex of misery. With a swollen and infected wounded paw, the mother dog limped across the alleys. The once alert and on guard stray was now frail, her body giving way to the unrelenting suffering. Still, her will driven by her love for her dogs kept her moving.  The once strong mother dog was turning into a shell of her former self, the neighbourhood noticed. Concern whispers among people who had seen her in better times. She was not alone; even if they were few, there were others that cared. The rescuer lost no time learning of the situation of the stray dog. The seconds were not just hours or days but at the time when people understood how brutal the streets could be. Moved by only empathy and determination, they went out to find the injured bitch with an intense desire that it would not be too late for her rescue. Stepping closer, an animal lover calmed the beast that was full of fear with quiet consoling murmurs void of hatred or any form of anger content. It could feel the gentle hand and hear the pacifying sound of a voice even though she was under excruciating pain. Thus, the distressed dog allowed this stranger to remove its paw from the trap with tenderness, following her instincts. The battle was far from finished, even though the relief came right away. She urgently required medical attention.

 

 

The Kindness of Strangers

There was doubt all along the way to the veterinary office. Hoping against hope they had arrived in time to save he, the rescuer took the injured dog in their arms. Quickly treating the infection and cleansing the wound, the medical team was The mother dog was under their custody for days, her condition gradually getting better.  The rescuer stayed by her side all during her rehabilitation. Offering comfort and company, they softly spoke to her. One day, a street stray without a home, mother dog finds comfort in her new friend as their love grows. Really, the reunion was quite remarkable: the pups, cared for by another kind soul while their mother is away, welcomed her with enthusiastic yips and wagging tails. Free now of pain and fear, the mother dog embraced her position again, her heart full of thanks for the second chance she had been given.

Finally, this stray dog, which had run the streets with a mother’s heart and cared for a whole family out of love, has found another life full of love and protection. She was no one else.
